A Study on Serum Au-Antigen of Blood Donors in Busan Area

Abstract
it is well known that Korea is one of the endemic areas for viral hepatitis, and high incidence of Australia antigen is expected among Korean population as compared to the other countries.
Several articles have been reported about Australia antigen studied on the population living in Seoul area but none to the population in Busan area.
Author has been performed comparative study on Hg, Hct, -and cardiolipin test as well as Australia antigen in the blood samples obtained from 300 professional donors applied to two blood banks located in Busan city and 500 volunteers donated to the Blood Bank, Busan Red Cross Hospital.
Australia antigen was detected by counter immunoelectrophoresis method.
The results obtained were as follows;
1. The mean hemoglobin and hematocrit value of the professional donors were 12. 8 gm/100m1 (10.813.8 gm/100ml) and 38.2% (32.6-41%) while that of volunteers were 13.9 gm/l00ml (12.4-16.3 gm/100ml) and 41.3% (36-48%).
2. Australia antigen was detected from 25 out of 300 professional donors (8.33%), and 16 out of 500 volunteers (3. 2%).
3. Cardiolipin tests were positive to 14 donors out of 300 professional ones(4. 66%) while none was positive out of 500 volunteers.
